For Parents and Teachers

Parents

If your child wishes to be a part of Children's University (CU), there are just a few things you need to know to start you off.

Firstly, only venues that have passed our validation process can provide activities that count towards CU learning. Such venues and the validated activities that they offer are known as Learning Destinations and Learning Activities, respectively.

You can find all public Learning Destinations and  Learning Activities here, and your child's school will let you know which of their clubs have been validated also. Please note that only activities completed outside of the normal school day will be counted.

Secondly, and most importantly, your child should be encouraged to take control of their own learning. Children's University is all about giving children responsibility and the freedom to choose what they learn, how they learn it and when they learn it.
Finally, if you have any questions about your child's membership with us, or about getting involved, your first port of call should be your local CU manager. All contact details of local CU centres are available through our website. If they can't help, then feel free to contact the Central CU team at contactus@childrensuniversity.co.uk.

Teachers

For schools and academies, CU provides opportunities to further engage students and to support their most vulnerable children.

It is well known that formative experiences heavily shape future life choices, particularly in relation to education and employment. Independent evaluation carried out by the University of Cambridge has confirmed that participation in our programme, and the wide array of activities offered through it, significantly improves school attendance, increases levels of attainment across all ages and raises aspirations.

As a vehicle which is open to all, but can be targeted at those who need it most, CU is a an effective and justifiable use of the Pupil Premium.

To get involved and give your children the opportunity to take part, please contact your local CU office to arrange a discussion with your CU Manager (contact details are available here). Your local CU Manager can give you and your school staff detailed information about what’s involved in becoming a part of the CU network. It is not a difficult or time-consuming process and we will support you every step of the way.

We will go through a list of any activities available at your school/academy that you would like to be quality approved as CU Learning Activities. Support will also be given to implement our E-Passport data management tool to ensure you are able to track the impact of your CU participation online.
